Important Lessons for Transformation

If a company has to transform rapidly, it is better to involve experts you know and have already worked with so the process can begin quickly and efficiently. Following few points shall be helpful during transformation of organization:

  1. Create a culture of urgency and identify ‘centre of excellence.’ The former drives people and the latter gives a sense of direction.
  2. Cut across lines of hierarchy and reach out to your people and explain what you want. Give them direction and vision. Be transparent and truthful.
  3. Be honest and candid with your leadership team. If things are not working out, tell them and help them reset their careers and expectations.
  4. Do not accept mediocre work.
  5. Be realistic in pressing people to deliver more. If you pull the string too hard, it will break. Maintain balance when dealing with people – support them when they fall, push them when they are complacent. Sounds like a cliché, but this is reality.
  6. During transformation, never lose your best people, especially those who are turning the wheel of change. Do whatever it takes to retain them.
